I agree with the comments about Heidsieck - he's an outstanding player, and I still have his EMI Beethoven Sonata set. The only thing I'd add is that the piano sound on this set always seemed a bit shallow to me. (I think that was typical of some French EMI piano recordings from around that time.)
OTOH, I got rid of my Tortelier/Heidsieck set of the cello sonatas, much as I love Heidsieck's playing in these works too. But Tortelier was just too out of tune (at least to my ears), and I couldn't take it any longer.
BTW, Heidsieck re-recorded some (or was it all?) of the Beethoven Sonatas in Japan. I have one of these discs and it's quite a bit different from his EMI performances - lots of tempo manipulation and rubato that I don't always find convincing, even though, overall, I think he's a great artist.
