Just a thought. I was talking with someone who asked my favorite song and I answered that it was one of Strauss' "Four Last Songs," either "Im Abendrot" or "Beim Schlafengehen." She suggested that I would be better off if my favorite song was a "happy" song.
Which led to a pondering on my musical tastes, the tastes of people with similar tastes, and personalities and temperaments. I am probably a bigger fan of the art form of the Requiem than most people are. Which leads to the discussion-opener: are, specifically, Mahlerians, more likely to be of a melancholic disposition?
