Mike -- I don't think anyone was saying you were "wrong", just that Mahler was widely considered to be a major composer even before Bernstein began to campaign so hard and so effectively on his behalf.
That said, I must add that I would never cite the fact that the Boston Globe agrees with me as support for any point I was trying to make. :)
