If you took late '60s rock and put in on the radio airwaves in 1953 it would have sounded completely strange and exotic. Music from 1977 also would have sounded pretty "out" by 1962 standards. However, if you take rock/pop from 2010 and moved it back in time to 1995 99.9% of it isn't going to startle anyone and much of it would still sound reassuring familiar in 1985.
