It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Perfect description

I have some Klemperer recordings on 2-track tape. The recording of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 is exactly what you describe. Thanks for the insight.

The early Columbia (EMI) stereo recording is minimally miked (Blumlein configuration). It is sheer pleasure to listen to because of the "perfect balance" of both performance and recording. I can't think of another Klemperer recording with finer string sound. Yet the performance lacks "melodic inflection," something this symphony needs. Still I wouldn't be without it.

I also like his Mozart, especially Symphonies No. 29 and No. 34, plus a "magisterial" Adagio and Fugue, K. 546.
