Rubinstein's stereo recording of the Ballades (which is also available as a hybrid SACD/CD (3-channel SACD, 2-ch SACD, redbook) is a classic. Perahia's Sony CD is very much worth hearing. I also like a very cheap CD (I think I paid $1.98 for it) by Istvan Szekely that has been issued on various labels. Finally, if you don't mind antique sound and some wrong notes, Cortot's are uniquely insightful.
