Now, I question my wisdom in putting this in print, but to be honest I am not a huge fan of either. Both are fantastic players, no doubt, and among the best in history. Freddie at his prime set a pretty unbelievably high bar for the trumpet. I have some records where I enjoy the playing of each quite a bit. But neither gets me terribly excited about music. To me the substance of their playing doesn't do a whole lot for me like Miles or Booker Little or Clifford Brown or Tom Harrell. I do listen to "Maiden Voyage" and "Interplay" and "Candy" and "Blue Train" plenty, among others.

I don't know Dupree Bolton or either the record you mentioned or the one Rick mentioned, another guy to check out!
