As much as I enjoy most of Mahler's work, some of it still leaves me with more questions than answers. Two that I can admit to having some understanding of, are the First and Second. Now about which conductor and which orchestra brings about many more questions. I look to Lenny B. first because of the orchestra and his reading of scores; but don't overlook our "younger" Lenny as in Slatkin. I would love to hear your take on Slatkin's reading and recordings with our Saint Louis Symphony on RCA. His recording, done some twenty years later than Bernstein's but with our orchestra at it's very best is one that I really can get next to. I'd be interested to have you reply as how it stacks up with your favorite first and second. By the way, I always read your posts and enjoy your take on things!!
