Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

RE: Classical retake? in Reverse!

I have also had the opposite experience.

Learned to love Copland's Appalachian Spring with Ormandy/Philadelphia. Years later sought out a pristine sealed copy. I have a lot of newer versions that I like a lot more. I hardly listen to the Ormandy.

Ditto: Mahler's Symphony 1 with Leinsdorf/Boston. I now have 25 recordings of this work and the Boston doesn't make the top of the list.

I really enjoyed these recordings when I heard them years ago on a really crummy drop-down TT suitcase system. Now with a top system, I find I prefer both the sonics and the performances of later recordings more.
