I bought a Rach 2 and Tchaik 1 with Richter (Wislowski and Karajan respectively) on DGG originals cd for cheap.
Led me to try comparing my LP copies of Van Cliburn and Richter. The sound on the latter is much nicer (the former is 40S/32S shaded dog and the latter is better near mint tulip).
Searched the forum here and Brian Cheney indicates the Cliburn is accompanied by a "cloaked" NY Phil. People also recommend Gilels/Reiner, Argerich/Dutoit? and Rubinstein, the wartime Horowitz/Toscanini 1943, and Ashkenazy.
Any current recommendations esp any new recordings that you like?
