So much for TAS audio quality ratings.

I just picked up Keith Jarrett's "My Foolish Heart" which was rated 4.5/5 for sound quality by TAS. In comparison to ALL my other Jarret recordings (the "Live at the Blue Note" box set, "Tribute" and "Selected Recordings")it's really quite poor. In fact I would rate the sound of the piano as quite bad with the irritating overtones WAY too overemphasized. On the other hand, while Gary Peacock's bass is reasonably well recorded, it is nothing special with the only outstanding feature being that it was recorded at a slightly higher level than most of his other recording (maybe even a little bloated). Rating a recording so highly solely on the basis that the bass is simply a louder than usual is something I would expect from a teenage rap and hip hop "connoisseur", not a so called "audiophile" publication. Those guys need to get some ears.
