In the car, the signal is compressed so the softer sounds appear louder and the extreme highs and lows are rolled off. Like Bose 901s.
There are a lot of classical recordings with excellent recording quality.
There are others with marvelous peformances with mediocre recording quality.
And there are some that are really poor.
If you can't enjoy those in the top two categories on your system, then the system needs work.
Since you don't list what's in your system, I would suggest a pair of good top quality tubed amps to replace what I imagine to be Krells or other expensive ss amps, that lack "musicality" mated with your speakers (Wilsons?).
