I own all of them, but I can't emphasize enough that the imports are the only releases from the old catalog which have been remastered thus far and those are the only ones I can vouch for sound wise. Also I would avoid the first live album even though it is an import, because it isn't one of the remastered Japanese titles (i.e. it's from Holland) and doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the LP I remember [note: even though the first live album is on the Capital/EMI label it has a distinctly bootleg sound quality; I have no idea what the source material was, and based on my recollections the original domestic LP from the early 70's sounded MUCH better].One head's up: E. Pluibus Funk is the coin shaped album you mentioned not liking very much; although I like it (i.e. *Footsomping Music* and *Loneliness* are stand outs), I wanted you to be aware of the fact before your purchase.
My recommendations: "Bosnia" (current and BEST sounding of the three live albums and available as a reasonably priced domestic release), the self-titled Grand Funk "red" album mentioned earlier (check under "ultimate Import Sale" sale on the main page at CD Now --- the price for this Japanese remaster is currently $20.99, has great sound and is well worth it IMHO), and last but not least "Closer to Home" (this has the studio version of the long track *I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home* which I believe you mentioned liking from the original live album; BTW, *I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home* is also available on the live Bosnia 2-CD set).
Hope this sets you on the right coarse; now I'll "return you your ship". (grin)
