It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Q: BEST Classical music /review site

You know, call me naive, but I don't believe labels support influences reviews. I've seen second-page full page ads in Gramophone for a release that was indeed panned, if politely. I think the belief makes a lot of posters on here just feel powerful in some way. That said:

I think the Gramophone is overall the best and most comprehensive site for anything past '82, unless the CD was a recent historical release. There's Musicweb.uk.net, but their roster or reviewers numbers higher than the population of my hometown. I don't know if many of the opinions will hold up for the long-haul, but they do investigate a lot of forgotten and historic performances. People say a lot about Gramophone, and I certainly like the old-school version better, but in the end, in my experience, they're virtually always right.

I like Hurwitz, (ClassicsToday.com) but he really tries to find something to like a many new performances that in the end I found kind of bland. He tends to be right on when it comes to sound. I tend to agree with him when he *doesn't* like a performance.

There's ClassicalNet which has reviews, some rambling ones for sure, but a lot of obscure CDs get covered as well. Also, ClassicalCDreview.com gets ahold of the latest SACD released pretty fast, but reviews are extrememly brief.
