While you're in KC for the weekend, you might consider visiting the WW I Museum at the Liberty Memorial. It just opened and has been widely praised. It's the only one in the USA.
Just down the hill from the museum in the Freightyards District is Fiorella's JackStack BBQ in a renovated warehouse. It's excellent BBQ in a great setting. "Lidia's", owned by Lidia Bastianich of NYC resturant fame and the PBS television show is just down the way from JackStack.
A few blocks from there is the Cross Roads District where art galleries, boutiques, and new resturants( KC does like to dine out) are thriving.
We just got about 3" of snow last night but the forecasts call for a warming trend starting Friday. The largest used record and cd stores are gone but that shouldn't stop you from having a good time.
