Does anyone else ever have a problem listening to a musician or composer about whom you learn facts which conflict with other aspects of your overall world view? I blew up here a while ago over Wagner and Antisemitism/Nazism saying i felt unable to give ear to his work because of his ideas in other areas. This sort of thing has happened again when i was considering buying the Beethoven String Quartets by the Amadeus Quartet and while searching to learn the date of the Deutsche Grammophon recording i learned Norbert Brainin seems to have considered Lyndon LaRouche a close friend even holding a concert "in Solidarity" with my fellow New Hampshireite.I think this recording was probably made well before Herr Brainin ever met LL but the fact that he seems to resonate with this individual troubled me to the point that i actually hesitated buying the Box Set because the idea of letting the playing of someone who resonated with LaRouche in, just didn't sit right somehow. Its like how i was kind of squeamish after first enjoying Benjamin Britten's; Variations on a Theme by Frank Bridge ,then reading of his pederastic bent and wondering if this music i was enjoying was composed while he dreamed of naked adolescent boys,lol...I don't want to have to hold my nose while deeply contemplating a piece of music.Anyone else ever even remotely encounter this level of neurosis in themselves?
