"Sounds a lot like Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" don't you think? "Oedipus" was written in 1927 and "Carmina Burana" premierred in 1937 so it seems this is an instance where Stravinsky, the self admitted thief, was himself stolen from. Just a bit of irony here. All in all it is powerful music."

Good point. IS was a great musician, extremely creative, the same applying much, much less to CO, whose success was dictated to a great extent by the "good" relationships - in those days.

Oedipus is not easy to approach I admit, and a good deal of the fascination is related to Cardinal Danielou's French narration text (this is totally lost in translations - English, especially when recited with Hollywood-style emphasis, is particularly awful) and the positively imposed eerie Latin pronounciation (e.g. "k" instead of "ch") that leads to the singing sound as carved in stone.

Once the ice is broken, Oedipus may be found to rank with the very best of IS: I personally rate it on par with the Rite and Agon (IMO the top of IS's output).
