Was it Legge(and Culshaw for the Decca recordings)-at any rate, some classics. I think his EMI Fledermaus is an amazing recording as well, for example.
I agree with you about Grummer-how about her Elizabeth in Tannhauser (an otherwise good recording ruined by Hopf in the title role).
