It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

There May Be a Major Symphony Orchestra Whose Standards Have Actually Risen Recently....

I was taking in an NPR Broadcast of Simon Rattle conducting the Berlin Philharmonic from the Philharmonie... This is some of the best playing I've heard from an orchestra in almost 20 years. The sound almost reminded me of the Cleveland Orchestra (during its heyday), but with an unmistakably European wind section.

Played a fabulous Beethoven First Concerto (Pianist named "Voke??") and a Schoenberg-orchestrated Brahms G Piano Quintet- also fabulous.

I was never a Simon Rattle fan, but I was shocked to hear his name after the Concerto. Maybe Rattle is an orchestra-builder, and in the era of greatly declining orchestral standards and declining music, he could be the most-important classical artist so far in the 21st Century.
