Her recordings don't do her justice. I find her mannerisms a bit irritating, but it is easy to overlook them in the house because the voice is quite large and incredibly beautiful. The tone, more than everything else, is dazzling. The vibrato thing you mention is magnified a thousandfold by studio microphones.This is a problem with all of the singers I've loved in the house that have recording contracts: Vargas, Swenson, Hampson, Fleming, Heppner, Florez, etc., etc., are all better live. I think this is usually the case with opera singers. They are notoriously difficult to mic properly.
