I have, on occasion, even sprung for the tower in which Bernstein stayed in the 1950s. Late in the year is best, when the whole countryside "goes to Glory" (I think that was de Toqueville but I'm not sure).The conducting is not always superb, the orchestra has declined since Kousevitsky. But you know what? It is marvelous!
Besides, in a roadster on dappled lanes in an afternoon, one plays one's own music.
