On Tuesday evening I attended the CSO with Barenboim conducting a Bach Concerto for 2 Pianos (yes, pianos), the Beethoven Fifth and the Schoenberg Piano Concerto. The featured soloist was Peter Serkin, who was very good. Barenboim was also quite good, but only in the Schoenberg, which is a fine piece of work. The Beethoven was bland, bland bland except for a lovely second movement. The Bach was instantly forgettable.I sure hope they hire someone with real talent to replace DB.
