Home Jazz Alley

From Louis Armstrong to Charlie Parker to the new greats of today, this is the place for Jazz!

Quincy Jones R.I.P.

There is mention of this on the General Asylum, and most obits play up his work on Thriller", but his roots were deeply in jazz.

In 1958 he recorded the album "Birth Of A Band" with an outstanding bunch of musicians. Interesting for those times, the band included Melba Liston on trombone and Patti Brown on piano (not to suggest he was an early feminist!).

For a jazz musician to live to age 91 and die rich - what's not to like?

The link should take you to the full album, and clicking on 'more' will get the full list of the personnel for the recording sessions. Clark Terry was Q's mentor.
