This really hit hard. Wrote one of the first profiles on Russell right after he'd joined Harry Connick Jr.'s orchestra in 1990 and begun his meteoric rise to jazz stardom (collaborations with Diana Krall, Ron Carter, Sonny Rollins, on and on would follow). Actually just saw him live last November. My only regret at the time was not attending the other 3 shows he did the same weekend. 60 years young, too damn soon. Bless you and your music.
