i was on my way to work at about 6:30AM in the dark and on comes these noodlings from Mile Davis and I was elated thinking it was a new Miles album but NO, the sultry emoting of Shirley with the title word that begins that song on the album of the same name. i was HOOKED and was buying all that she was releasing at the time, as they came out.
then I started on her older releases and they are also wonderful but that song really got my attention and her albums of that era are her best IMHO.
now start listening to Abbey Lincoln at roughly the same period and you'll be off on another adventure.
