RE: RIP Wayne Shorter...

I have been reminiscing with an old friend about the times we saw Weather Report together; several times at the Jazz Workshop in Boston and at Tanglewood in western MA. The Jazz Workshop was a very intimate space with the tables right up against the small stage. No sound system amplification was really necessary as the performers were only a few feet away.

Driving from NH after school, we always arrived early, got a few whiskey nips from the liquor store next door to pour into our beer, and sat at a tiny table in the front row 3' in front of Zawinul's electric piano. Shorter's saxophone was only 5' away. This was 1970 to 1972 so we were able to hear the music off of their first two albums. It was magical music for the ages and left a lasting impression in our eager young ears.
