The Iridium Jazz Club in mid-town used to be the spot (when Les Paul was alive and playing there). I understand they have expanded their offerings lately. Look them up to see what's being offered when you're in town. The Vanguard (mentioned before) is also an excellent suggestion.

***You may want to also look up the 'Blue Note' in the Village. Be advised, to me Blue Note has become somewhat of a 'jazz music tourist trap' imo.
