I'm not a fan of Basie, surprisingly. I prefer Benny Goodman's bands.
- Birth of the Cool was great, and all the Gil Evans scores.
- I like a few Latin bands - Benny More and the Fania All Stars, and more recently Newen Afrobeat from Chile.Attached Newen Afrobeat's "Zombie" number for Halloween! Addictive beat....
My favourite "big band" is Weather Report. Kind of an electric big band, and clearly Zawinul's homage to the big band era in some of the tracks off Mr Gone and Night Passage.
