Home Jazz Alley

From Louis Armstrong to Charlie Parker to the new greats of today, this is the place for Jazz!

RE: Jacky Terrasson "Reach"

It was the 1993 competition so I certainly don't remember, but I am sure it wasn't Mr. Chestnut.

In 2018, before the name change, pandemic, and moving the finals to California, an Israeli pianist won. His playing was totally forgettable IMNSHO. I don't even remember his name. OTOH, Isaiah J. Thompson, the runner up, was so much better. I had a very brief conservation with Mr. Chestnut, one of the judges, at the Cellar Door in DC a short time later. He was very reluctant to talk about it, but implied the whole judging is very political.

Ciao,
