The guy is just a human phenomenon....

I once talked to his then partner in Ronnie Scotts where she was working as a waitress. Somehow I got mixed up and thought she was with Philly Joe Jones. When she corrected me I remarked "Well, same kind of drummer...".

Aghast, she took a step back and said "Nothing like it - Roy is much more subtle".

And she was right.
