I was listening to America when my friends were listening to Hendrix. I like composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky, but I cannot take Bartok, Schoenberg, etc. I like acoustic blues like Mississippi John Hurt, but I don't listen to much electric Chicago blues. My favorite music is actually slack key guitar from Hawaii. However, don't get me wrong. I don't like Kenny G or other easy listening jazz.
I definitely like melody and improvisations on melody. I like group playing which has a lead player and backup, instead of everyone trying to play lead at the same time. That doesn't mean the lead instrument cannot change during the tune.
