I can understand why Jackie MacLean wasn't mentioned, but I loved his sound from the first time I heard it on his Right Now album. I'd never heard a sound like Jackie's and was knocked out. Truly unique.
James Spaulding is the other one. Love his liquid alto sound that's loaded with harmonics, especially in his Bluenote days. Soulful player.
