Evans covers a lot of standards on those Verve sets with both polish & grit
and dare I say 'verve'? the players in these groups are leaders [or will soon be] in their own rights, stellar in their roles as 'sidemen' so ... to come away with the impression of catatonia has to be down to mood
I haven't delved into Horace Silver for a good long while so no comment
count me as a fan if not a follower
our moods exert such a powerful influence on musical perception though
jazz in particular, will often only give back what you invest as a listener
some things will grab you right away while others take time
'acquired taste' might be why many do not find jazz to be 'accessible'
