RE: Monk Palo Alto... 2020 finally gets better...

I initially was a disappointed by the note that this was recorded by the school custodian. Then I thought back on my own Jr High School days and realized that, ironically, it was the custodian that set me on my course of electronics as a profession and audio as an avocation.

My school had after school elective programs and one was an introduction to electronics. I was drawn to this program for some reason and it was taught by the custodian. He was a ham radio operator and wanted to share his enthusiasm for radio and electronics with the students.

In those days, e.g. the 1950s, the custodian was a well paid position and he was a regular member of the school's administration. He taught us about basic AC and DC circuit theory and, as part of the curriculum, we each built a five tube superheterodyne radio from a kit. We also studied for the FCC requirements for ham radio and I attempted to learn Morse Code.

OK, the point of all this is that the custodian of an affluent CA high school could very well have been a well paid employee with a strong interest in Hi Fi with a good quality reel to reel recorder and decent microphones. It would also probably have been just two microphones recorded on to two channel tape with no mixing or signal processing of any kind. So, it is not inconceivable that the results are very listenable today.
