Ethan Hein explains why "Giant Steps" was in some sense a "dead end" in jazz, and it was Coltrane's genius to create it in the first place and then understand it as a dead end and move on in to a deeper musical understanding--a concept that "jazz bros" to this day still haven't picked up on.
