...I see great lyricism as the cardinal virtue in most of these cases. Even the ones that groove hard have soaring lines (Joshua) or a singing quality (Frelon Brun). Oh, and there's Philly Joe Jones on Ah-Leu-Cha. Damn!
The reason I include the Metronome All Stars date (Overtime is the name of the cut) is that it's strong evidence that Miles really WAS an accomplished trumpeter.
