Just a little friendly ball-busting... I know what a Hawkwind fan you are from past discussions. While I still haven't had the chance to listen to any of Hawkwind's more recent material, I take your word for it that all their music isn't like I thought it was.I don't know how familiar you are with Banco de Gaia, but if you're interested in hearing more I would recommend the second album, Last Train to Lhasa. Later records had their moments but I wasn't as impressed.
I suspect many people would agree that the best Banco de Gaia track was "Desert Wind," which featured the beautiful voice of the late Ofra Haza. It was released as an EP and found its way on to a few different ambient music compilations during the early/mid 90's as well as a currently available best-of compilation on Six Degrees. A classic.
Yeah, one of these days I really have to check out Hawkwind's more electronically influenced material... thanks to you, I know they're not just a 70's & 80's space rock band :-)
