Aisha Kandisha's Jarring Effects, "Shabeesation," Rykodisc. This is
a Moroccan group recorded by Laswell with some of his cronies, like
Bernie Worell, Umar bin Hassan (The Last Poets), and Laswell himself
on bass and various effects and loops. The music of the Berber Gnawa
supplies the underpinnings for this album, but it is electrified
and psychedelicized, urban Gnawa if you will. The Berber Gnawa are
the sorcerers of the Sahara; they cure scorpion bites and troubled
and confused minds. This is magic music. Try it, you'll like it.
