i'm not really into R&B too much. i thought i was wrong about barry after hearing the long forgotten "love's theme" instrumental which opens one of his collections, but as soon as i heard the next track which opened with him blabbing (along with several other tracks) i knew i'm not a barry white fan.i'm not at all a fan (in fact you might even say i flat out despise) "strokin'" by clance carter which is a similar "sexed up" R&B jam. if i hear something that direct, i want it to be a woman singing it eg.
"love to love you baby" by donna summerbarry white's talking style comes off as pretentious to me and his voice is pretty ragged. thanks for recommending him though, but i think most of the other recommendations others have made aren't going to work for me either. i hope you don't take my reply personally. i have pretty specific tastes. when it comes to the 60s, i'm mostly into bubblegum and for the 70s, more of the offbeat rock.
if i were to get into romantic oldies... i'd probably go back another decade to doo-wop eg.
"there's a moon out tonight" etc.i'm sure you'd probably hate alot of the wierd music i'm into too.
