Going from age 16 to age 24, I think a whole LOT of things can change. ;-)
But in any case, the relationship among rubato, dynamics and tone is complex, and many performances realize Chopin's writing successfully using different means. Some are more literal, some are more interventionist. (Remember that Chopin said that Liszt got effects from playing Chopin's Polonaises which he - the actual composer - could only dream about!)
