I was never a fan, but he's apparently well regarded over there..... Who am I to judge?

Meanwhile, some of his recent stuff has actually been decent..... Maybe he's turning a corner over there.

I do think the Jaaps and the Mutis of the world are often tempted to change horses, believing things are better on the other side..... (I remember Muti when he was in Philadelphia.... He's jumping around like a caffeinated rabbit. I once longed for him to come to Cleveland, but if he's a rental, maybe it was a good thing that he never went there.) It kills the continuity of the institution, each music director has different ideas on performance..... It can be disconcerting, if not disruptive.
