Frankly, I couldn't care less about this sort of audio manipulation. The real art in recording and decoding IMO is giving two channels real space, depth and height. And it is amazing what some have done at both ends of the chain. Two of the best channels I can afford will, I'm convinced, give me more pleasure than 7(?) of the best channels I can afford.
You and the other 5 or so persons seriously interested in classical music AND in this multi-channel stuff are chatting among yourselves, I think. The crowd with all these speakers, woofers and multi-channel DACs is a home theater one with very little interest in Bach, Beethoven, etc.
