From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

The Warsaw Chopin Competition, 2021

Yikes it's just a month after the Leeds Competition. There's already been some discussion about this on RMCR (Google Groups), and the list of competitors shows more than ever how dominant the Asian countries are now in so many European classical music endeavors. In the preliminary round of this Chopin Competition, there were no less that SIX competitors, all with the last name of "Wang". Two of the Wangs got into the first ("Stage 1") round, and I was sorry to see that one of the Wangs, Yijia Wang from China, did not make it to this round. I think that if Ms. Wang had advanced far enough in the competition, the resulting confusion between Yijia Wang and Yuja Wang could have had some high entertainment value. Two of the three Guos (Eric Guo from Canada and Chelsea Guo from the US) advanced too.

Anyway, I'll repeat that it's just amazing how dominant the Asians are in the major competitions these days, and I tip my hat to them. Almost all the people I accompany here in the SF Bay Area are Asian - wonderful people with a strong work ethic!
