Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

I just listened all the way through the "Polovtsian Dances"...

in 24/96--and it wasn't pleasant. The balance and intonation of the women's chorus seems a bit off and a tad shouty. And the men just can't seem to muster that last ounce of enthusiasm that one would expect in their paean to Khan Konchak.

"Islamey" is much better, a never-let-up-on-the-gas performance that nonetheless reverts appropriately to the reflectively lyrical where that matters.

I've yet to get to "Bare Mountain" and "Pictures." All I can say at this point is that hope springs eternal.
