Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

I have Abbado's DVD performance of the opera.

I feel as if I haven't listened to it enough to form an opinion of most of the rest of the work, although I think that the last scene, where the "Old Believers" are burned to death, has a lot of dramatic potential, depending on whether the production is using the Rimsky version, the Shostakovich version, or the Stravinsky version! (Abbado uses Stravinsky for his final scene.)

One thing I love about the Abbado recording is the babes featured in the "Dance of the Persian Slaves"! Talk about alluring - and they've got all the writhing going, they've got the chains. . . ;-)

Looks like the whole Abbado performance is available on YouTube - I've got it cued to "Dance of the Persian Slaves". You can thank me later! ;-)
