Yup - the music in those movies was sort of "found" rather than "composed for purpose"

Have you heard the original Alex North score for 2001, which Kubrick decided not to use? Yeah, it's not Ligeti (or either of the Strausses for that matter!), but it's pretty interesting and probably doesn't deserve its neglect. And, yes, I take your point about Savall. ;-)
