Sometimes, music that might be considered (by some) as belonging mostly to the "Post 19th Century Classical Music Continuum" might be better classified as "sound effects" than actual "music", although arguments might flare over such distinctions.The film music of Gyorgi Ligeti for "2001 - A Space Odyssey" might immediately come to mind.
How many of us would want to listen to such music as "music" all by itself, without the accompanying distraction of appropriate visuals ? Or, at least for very long ?
