His name was Martin Stoner, and he was a student of Galamian. Somehow, he'd heard that Fuchs could be difficult to the students of other teachers during the juries, and just before the juries were to take place, he happened to be in the same elevator as Fuchs. So Stoner decided that he would try to butter him up, and turned to Fuchs and said, "Isn't it a nice day, Mr. Fuchs?", whereupon Fuchs answered, "A nice day? I don't know - I haven't been outside the whole day!" Getting more agitated and worked up, Fuchs continued, "It could be a terrible day for all I know!"
So the day of the juries rolls around, and Stoner comes into the audition room. Fuchs gives him a funny look, and asks, "Haven't I seen you before?" Stoner didn't want to bring up the exchange in the elevator, so he lied, "Uhh, you probably saw me in class!" Fuchs replied, "Oh - that's right - I saw you in class." So Stoner starts playing his pieces, and right in the middle of one of them, he hears Fuchs saying in a loud voice, "No, it wasn't in class - but where was it?" Then Fuchs starts pounding his fist on the table, saying, "Stoner! Stoner!. . . Where have I seen this guy before?" But Stoner didn't stop his performance, and somehow, he did pass his juries, even with Fuchs' "interruption"! ;-)
