For myself, adding site to sound eliminates many of the issues that make "bringing a live performance into the living room" always beyond reach. Imaging, in particular, becomes a non-issue and simply listening to the music is all that matters.

Moreover, for every audiophile with a luxury car-sized investment in "faithful audio-video reproduction" there must be dozens who, like me, were raised on 19" TV's and continue to be amazed by 10 year old 42" screens with modest amps and speakers.

The visual aspect has such an impact on psycho-acoustic perception that where I once went to the trouble of switching cables to bring the direct audio feed to my main amps and speakers, I no longer bother.

Case in point: the Mahler symphonies were never favorites, just another set of interminable waits between a few meaty parts even with the delights of playing in the gorgeous brass chorale of the Second. Then I viewed this performance and was so taken by the emotion of the Urlicht that I sought out the text of the poem and story of Mahler's life. Now I have LP's of all the symphonies in multiple performances but continue to come back to viewing this one through T-amp and $60/pr. speakers.
