David Hurwitz told me one time that he'd seen either Penderecki or Lutoslawski (I now forget which one) conduct the Baltimore Symphony one time - and not in his own music! It was the Sibelius Second IIRC.
Re all that superior Polish hi-fi, there's this site - some of the articles are even in English. ;-)
